On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. The eclipse will happen between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., MST.
Safety is the number one priority when viewing a total solar eclipse.
Except during the brief total phase of a total solar eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s bright face, it is not safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing.
Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics can cause severe eye injury.
Please remind your children not to look directly into the sun during the eclipse without protective glasses. (NOTE: regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun during an eclipse.)

El lunes 8 de abril de 2024, un eclipse solar total atravesará América del Norte, pasando sobre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá. Un eclipse solar total ocurre cuando la Luna pasa entre el Sol y la Tierra, bloqueando completamente la cara del Sol. El cielo se oscurecerá como si fuera el amanecer o el anochecer. El eclipse ocurrirá entre las 10 am y la 1 pm, MST.
La seguridad es la prioridad número uno al ver un eclipse solar total.
Excepto durante la breve fase total de un eclipse solar total, cuando la Luna bloquea completamente la cara brillante del Sol, no es seguro mirar directamente al Sol sin protección ocular especializada para la observación solar.
Ver cualquier parte del Sol brillante a través de la lente de una cámara, binoculares o un telescopio sin un filtro solar especial asegurado en la parte frontal de la óptica puede causar lesiones oculares graves.
Recuerde a sus hijos que no miren directamente al sol durante el eclipse sin gafas protectoras. (NOTA: las gafas de sol normales, por oscuras que sean, no son seguras para ver el Sol durante un eclipse).
